PROGRAMS

Emergency Food Cupboard
Education on proper diet and eating habits is supplied. Participants can be walk-in (must have valid address and proper identification) or through agency referrals. We are also in partnership with Camphor UMC, Union Memorial, Berry Long, and Mary Jane’s Enrichment Center by providing food monthly.

Holiday Baskets
Food baskets are provided for a full holiday family dinner for those who would otherwise be without. Easter baskets, Thanksgiving and Christmas packages are made possible by UMNS and you.

Thrift Shop
UMNS clothing shop is staffed by volunteers and senior citizens. Career closet has items very low cost. Items need for men, women and children.

Summer Enrichment Day Camp
Our program objective is to provide an enriching and safe summer experience for low income inner city children ranging in ages from 6–12. Activities involve math, tutoring, cultural arts, arts and crafts, sports and field trips. The camps operate during the months of July and August.

After School Tutorial
1st grade–6th grade. Hours 3:30–5:30. Please inquire about available programs.

Christmas Shop
Available for low-income inner city persons to shop for toys and clothing for the holidays. Children and seniors have an opportunity to shop for family members at very affordable prices.

UMNS Kid’s Breakfast Club
First Saturday of each month neighborhood children are invited from 9:00am–12:00pm for a few hours of nutritious food and fellowship with their peers.

Thursday Lunch
11:30am–12:30pm lunch is served at our Broad Street office.

Soup Saturday
Third Saturday of each month 9:30am–12:00pm at our Broad Street office.

Computer Training Course
Tuesday and Thursday at six-week intervals. This program is designed for the welfare-to-work mothers and low-income individuals. Focus is to develop computer skills that will help them gain meaningful employment. Inquire about available spaces.

Phil-a-Job
Opportunity for young people to get summer jobs. Underage must have approved papers by parents and the school. Please inquire within.

Adult Education
GED preparation. Inquire within about program details.

Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Program
Counseling for breaking dependence on addictive substances. Referral required.

Mother’s Time Out
This program is provided for mother’s to assist with doctor’s appointments, shopping and errands that require child care. Other emergency care such as funeral attendance is also applicable. This service is provided twice a week. Please call for days and times.

Overnight Camping Experiences
Carson Simpson Farms overnight camp for boys and girls on two separate occasions provide safe, away from home fun. Professional staffing is provided.
